CUMMING, Ga. -- Forsyth County will hold an official ceremony to break ground on a new courthouse and jail.

The ceremony is set for Monday, July 8 at 8:30 a.m., at the intersection of Main Street and Veterans memorial Boulevard. The public is invited to attend, as this will be the site of the new additions to downtown Cumming.

"We are extremely grateful to the citizens of Forsyth County for recognizing the need for these new facilities and for their support of these projects," Commissioner Chairman R.J. (Pete) Amos said. "Without the voters' approval for SPLOST VII, we would not be able to construct these critical components of our judicial and public safety infrastructure. A sincere thank you is extended to all the residents of Forsyth County."

The new courthouse and jail are expected to be finished in December 2014.
