2 metro counties named among best in nation for youth | Education

CUMMING, Ga. -- Two metro Atlanta communities have been named among the country's 100 Best Communities for Young People.

Forsyth and Troup counties were recognized Wednesday by America's Promise Alliance and ING for their commitments to educating and empowering youth.

Forysth County, and in particular the city of Cumming, was honored for providing "support to youth through employment, mentoring, leadership and bullying prevention programs," according to America's Promise Alliance.

The alliance recognized Troup County for its "number of programs in place that encourage youth to stay in school and prepare for life after graduation."

More than 320 communities were nominated for this year's 100 Best list. It's the second time both Forsyth and Troup counties have made the cut.

America's Promise Alliance is a network of nonprofits, businesses, communities, educators and policymakers focused on America's youth. It was founded by former Secretary of State and Gen. Colin Powell.
