ATLANTA -- Not only do houseplants bring in much needed color during the bare winter months, but they also play an important health role by improving air quality! Research has revealed that certain common houseplants can actually create a cleaner environment by releasing oxygen and removing contaminants – like formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia – from a room’s air efficiently.

To help customers create a cleaner, greener and healthier home, Pike Nurseries is hosting a FREE “Houseplants for a Healthy 2015” customer class at all garden center locations onSaturday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.

During the informational seminar, guests will learn about houseplant health benefits, popular plant options and proper care guidelines. With expert tips from Pike Nurseries, guests can keep their homes healthy and “green” all year-round!

ATLANTA -- The garden experts at Pike Nurseries are helping customers start 2015 off right with refreshed container gardens and houseplants.

On Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, Pike Nurseries will host Potting Party Weekend at all store locations. Gardeners of all levels are invited to bring an empty pot from home or purchase a new one, as on-hand associates help them plant indoor or outdoor container gardens, houseplants and terrariums.

Pike Nurseries will also provide complimentary Pike Potting and Container Soil and E.B. Stone Sure Start for pots planted in-store.

With expert potting advice and a wide selection of plants available at Pike Nurseries, guests can welcome the New Year with the perfect container garden for any home.

ATLANTA -- Paperwhites and amaryllises are classic, beautiful flowers that show off the spirit of the season. To help customers grow their own holiday bulbs indoors and to ensure they will bloom just in time for Christmas, Pike Nurseries is hosting a free Forcing Paperwhite and Amaryllis Bulbs class.

On Saturday, Nov. 8 at 9 a.m., garden experts will offer step-by-step guidance to plant and care for these bulbs so they will display dazzling, festive blooms. After the class, guests can gather up the supplies and give their green thumbs a go at forcing bulbs to grow indoors with the help of Pike Nurseries garden experts.

The class will be offered at all Pike Nurseries locations.

ATLANTA -- With the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays right around the corner, now is the perfect time to add a “pop” of pumpkin to get into the fall spirit!

On Saturday, October 18 at 9 a.m., the experts at Pike Nurseries are helping customers celebrate the season with a fun Pumpkin Planters Make & Take customer class. Participants will receive step-by-step guidance to plant a pumpkin filled with pansies, snapdragons, peppers and other fall favorites.

The class costs $30 for supplies, including pumpkins, potting soil and a variety of plants for guests to create their own personalized planter to take home!

ATLANTA –- As an official kickoff to the fall season, Pike Nurseries is hosting its annual Gardenfest event on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at all garden center locations.

While stocking up on autumn essentials, guests can take advantage of store-wide specials throughout the evening! All regular price items (excluding grills, propane, sod, pine straw, gift cards and services) will be 20 percent off. Customers can also enjoy complimentary wine tastings and appetizers.

PROBE College Fair coming to Forsyth County

PROBE College Fair coming to Forsyth County

CUMMING, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Cumming this week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lanier Technical College Conference Center.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

Race this weekend: Running with Elvis

BUFORD, Ga. -- Get "all shook up" at an Elvis Presley-themed 5K this weekend.

The Running with Elvis 5K, Fun Run & Tot Trot will be Saturday, Sept. 13 at West Bank Park on the shores of Lake Lanier. Check-in opens at 7:30 a.m. and will be followed by the fun run at 8 a.m., the 5K at 8:15 a.m. and the tot trot at 9:15 a.m.

Race organizers describe the course as scenic, flat and fast. Runners who arrived dressed as Elvis will earn a 20-second head start on the 5K.

All participants will receive T-shirts, while awards will be given to the overall male and female finishers and top three runners in each age group.

Advance registration is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the fun run. The prices go up to $30 and $25, respectively, on race day. The tot trot is free.

Proceeds from the race will benefit programs at North Lanier Christian Academy.
