School bus driver injured in crash in Cherokee County

CUMMING, Ga. -- An early morning crash between a school bus and a tractor trailer spilled 80 gallons of fuel on the road and shut down an intersection in Cherokee County.

11Alive chopper video shows the collision happened between the front end of the school bus and just behind the cab of the tractor trailer. GDOT reported more than 80 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the intersection of Hightower Rd (SR 20) and Cumming Highway (SR 369).

One child, an 11-year-old boy, was aboard the bus at the time. The child suffered minor injuries; his mother took him to a local doctor to be evaluated.

The 75-year-old bus driver sustained a hand injury and was treated at Northside Cherokee Hospital.

EMS, Fire, and Police were on scene working to clean up the fuel spill and redirect traffic around the closed intersection. The road reopened at around 9:40 a.m.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
