CUMMING, Ga. -- A Cumming teenager was killed in a car accident Wednesday night.

The crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Dr. Bramblett Road at Milford Trail. Caleb Ammons, 17, died at the scene.

Ammons was the passenger in a 1998 Honda Civic driven by 18-year-old Ashton Ciunowicz. Forsyth County Sheriff's officials said the car was heading south when it left the road while negotiating a curve. It traveled down an embankment and rolled several times, striking a tree.

Investigators said Ammons was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Ciunowicz had to be cut out of his seat belt; he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at North Fulton Hospital.

The crash is under investigation. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Ciunowicz is a senior at West Forsyth High School; Ammons was in 10th grade. Grief counselors were at the school all day Thursday.

Residents near the accident site said that there have been several wrecks in that area recently. The speed limit was recently reduced to 35 mph from 45 mph.
