Many N. Georgia residents still without power
News

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – Thousands of people remained without power in north Georgia Thursday as residents prepared for more possible winter weather.

Power crews worked to clear roads and repair power lines damaged by Monday's ice storm.

Reinforcements from as far away as Arkansas arrived to help power workers struggling to cope with freezing winds.

In some areas, there are still some sporadic outages, sometimes in the same neighborhood. Neighbors, in some cases, were stringing extension cords to each other so at least a heater can be on in the house.

Power crews from the EMCs have been running non-stop. They quit when it is too dangerous to go on, but they're literally back at it when the sun comes up.

The problem now, is hitting those areas where two or three houses are without power. That can take just as much time as some lines that feed two or three thousand homes.

Another round of winter weather could move in on Friday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Friday through Saturday in many north Georgia counties, and a winter weather advisory has been issued for that same period for many metro Atlanta counties. (Click here for the latest forecast)
