ATLANTA – According to the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, “country music is a perennial Southern favorite in Atlanta and it won’t disappoint”. The music, which has its roots in the south, is known as a blend of, both, traditional and popular music. The country music genre gained widespread popularity around the mid-1900’s as music known as “hillbilly” or old-time music began to decline. Hillbilly music was a genre of music native to the people of the Ozarks. The music was usually played on acoustic instrument like a guitar or a banjo.

Over the years, old-time music changed however most of the lyrical content and instrumentation stayed the same. As it evolved, the arrangement of instruments grew to include the electronic keyboard, drums, the bass, fiddle and the harmonica.

Lawmakers want to end Ga. 400 Tolls

ATLANTA (AP) - A group of state lawmakers from north Fulton County are asking the state not to extend tolls on Ga. 400 for another decade.

High-ranking legislators from north Fulton County on Friday asked the state to reverse its decision to extend the Ga. 400 toll until 2020. House Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones said legislators are exploring whether they can cancel the toll themselves with a new law.

In addition to Jones, signers of the letter to the state Transportation Board include House Majority Whip Edward Lindsey, House Judiciary Chairman Wendell Willard and House Ethics Chairman Joe Wilkinson.

They also sent a copy of the letter to Gov. Sonny Perdue and Gov.-elect Nathan Deal.

The State Road and Tollway Authority voted in September to extend the toll.
