20 Ga. schools receive Lowe's 'Toolbox for Education' grants | Schools

ATLANTA -- Twenty schools throughout Georgia have been awarded money through the Lowe's Toolbox for Education program.

Toolbox for Education is designed to help pay for improvement projects at public schools across the country. It has provided nearly $30 million through more than 6,000 grants since 2006.

"Through Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program, we are acknowledging parent-initiated efforts that enhance the learning environments of children in the communities we serve," Marshall Croom, chairman of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, said in a statement. "By supporting schools in Georgia, we are rallying behind a cause that is important to both our customers and employees, and we're helping to build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow's employees, homeowners and community leaders."

Georgia's winners for the fall 2011 cycle are:

Woodward Elementary, Atlanta (Brookhaven/Druid Hills)
$5,000 for new doors for the school building

Glenn Hills High, Augusta
$5,000 to repurpose an outdoor space

Macedonia Elementary, Canton
$4,400 to create useful outdoor space

Sixes Elementary, Canton
$3,700 to refurbish an outdoor classroom

Edwards Middle, Conyers
$4,500 to create a scene program for parent leaders

Fairview Elementary, Covington
$5,000 for books for a silent reading program

Chattahoochee Elementary, Cumming
$4,000 to build an interactive outdoor classroom

Haw Creek Elementary, Cumming
$5,000 for an outdoor classroom space

Lumpkin County Elementary, Dahlonega
$4,800 for an outdoor science classroom

Paulding County High, Dallas
$4,000 to build gardens and a pond for fish

Jackson Elementary, Jonesboro
$5,000 for a photography and design center

Pepperell Middle, Lindale
$5,000 to build picnic tables in a courtyard space

Davis Elementary, Marietta
$4,695 to beautify the school's main entry

Sope Creek Elementary, Marietta
$5,000 to build a greenhouse and raised planters

Jasper County Middle, Monticello
$4,310 to build a teaching garden for the science department

Habersham Central High, Mount Ary
$2,440 to update band equipment

Gen. Ray Davis Middle, Stockbridge
$3,710 to build a bird sanctuary for conservation

Len Lastinger Primary, Tifton
$5,000 to build an outdoor classroom space

Crossroad Second Chance South, Union City
$2,635 for a greenhouse and rain barrels

Mason Creek Elementary, Winston
$4,500 to build a covered outdoor classroom
