Cumming woman wins $250K lottery prize

Cumming woman wins $250K lottery prize

CUMMING, Ga. -- A Cumming woman has grabbed a quarter-of-a-million dollars from playing Mega Millions.

Geraldine Thornton, 66, matched the first five winning numbers from the April 2 drawing to win her monumental $250,000 prize.

With her windfall, Thornton anticipates making transformations at home.

“I’m going to have a new bathroom put in,” she shared. “The rest we’ll just bank, I guess.”

A set of family birthdays and anniversaries is what helped Thornton clinch the prize.

Winning numbers from the April 2 Mega Millions drawing were: 7-10-14-40-47 and the Mega Ball was 34.

The Publix at 500 Atlanta Road in Cumming sold the lucky ticket.

Retired from working in retail, Thornton “choked up” upon seeing the results on the Georgia Lottery’s website. She went back to the store to double check.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the lucky winner said. “I was shocked.”
